Book Review + Outfit- All the Light We Cannot See

I am part of a book club that aims to meet every month. Unfortunately, we didn't meet last month to discuss the book, because we are all teachers and had busy schedules. So the book I am going to talk about was actually last months book, and I just finished it. Oops! As they say- It's better late than never.

The book was All the Light We Cannot See by: Anthony Doerr. Here is the link to the book in  Goodreads:

All the Light We Cannot See- Goodreads

What I Loved-
1. It was beautifully written with fantastic descriptions.
2. Interesting perspective from a girl that was blind, and I plan on using it in my English classroom.
3. I loved seeing a girl with a disability not let it debilitate her. She is a strong character, and I love reading that.
4. It's set in World War 2 and Paris- two things that are interesting to me.
5. It is very quotable; there are many pages that I marked because I loved a quote.
6. A new perspective of a much written about war.
7. Learning a little history of the city Saint Malo, France (I love learning about new cities and their rich histories).

What I Didn't Love-
1. It was slow at times, which means it was easy to put down and not miss.
2. It is 530 pages, which means it is not a quick read. That doesn't bother me except that it was slow at times.
3. The time periods shifted a lot and confused me, so I did a lot of turning back and forth until half way through I got the hang of it.
4. Seeing the ugly side of humanity and the repercussions of war. I hated it, but I understand the need for it in a war book. It shows the reality of the situation.

It is a book that has won many awards and I know why. It is beautifully written, a unique perspective,  and a great historical fiction. I would definitely recommend it!

Now, I did not thrift this book and this is a thrifting blog.....So I have for you a thrifted outfit that was inspired from the book. If you have read it, leave me comments telling me your thoughts about it!

Thrifted Thursday #2

I have chosen some of my recent thrifts that are more fall inspired.

1. J. Crew Pink Gingham Shirt
This was something that I fell in love with, but it wasn't my size. I do have a poshmark closet, so I am selling it on that. I found a few items with pink gingham and I posted them below.

2. Jessica Simpson Brown Belt
I love this belt and will definitely be using it throughout the fall season! I found some other brown belts that are currently for sale and would love to have in my closet.

Laser Cut Floral Stretch Belt

3. Pink Columbia Fleece Jacket
I love my fleece with a passion. It is the perfect jacket to keep me warm, but shrug off when I get hot. I was so happy when I found this pink fleece jacket! I found some other pink fleece for you to shop.

Falling for Flowers

I am wearing shorts again, because it is still very hot. I am also wearing a shirt that is from a maternity store. If you have been following my blog, i'm sure you have taken note that I am still wearing maternity clothes even though my daughter is 6 months old. I can't help it. They are so comfortable!

I grant you permission to judge.

However, I didn't only choose this shirt because it's comfortable. I also chose it because I love the design. It looks very fall, and I am obsessed with the flowers. It's just so beautiful! I put on my burlap Toms to give it a more earthy look, which is not something that I normally gravitate to, but I really liked it with the shirt. I am branching out, and it feels good! Are there any outfits that you are branching out with? If so, let me know because I may want to try them out too!

Breaking all the Rules

I assume you are thinking, "Who wears shorts during the fall, much less white shorts?" I understand that a fashion crime has been committed, and I am willing to pay the price. However, I want to share with you a quote that I live by.

"In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different" - Coco Chanel

Today I will follow that quote and be different! It is also in the 90s and terribly HOT! This is my way of staying cool and still trying to have a fall feel.

Five Things Friday #1

I dropped the ball this past Thursday again. I was going to show you some items that I recently thrifted, but I couldn't get it together for some unknown reason. Instead, I am keeping with my alliteration abuse (I just can't stop!) and doing a Five Things Friday. I am just going to talk about 5 random things that come to my mind. This may get weird, but it will give you a chance to learn more about the person that I am.

1. My husband and I are celebrating our third wedding anniversary this weekend in the town that we met- College Station. We will be eating a fancy dinner and attending the football game tomorrow.

2. This is our first time leaving our daughter, who is almost 6 months. I may cry and I will definitely miss her, but....

3. I really want to go shopping on our anniversary weekend, is that weird? I know it's our anniversary weekend, but I want to go....

4. I am currently reading such a good book that all I want to do is read!

5.  It's Friday and all of my grades are in. If you are a teacher, you understand the struggle. I truly think I deserve a mini celebration in honor of my achievement!

I hope you enjoy your weekend!!

My First Coat of the Season

I live in Texas. We all know that means I really don't even need a coat. At least not until December or January. However, I love the look of coats and continue to buy them despite my lack of need.

My favorite color is pink, in all shades, so obviously, this blazer was a definite buy when I ran across it in the thrift store. I bought it last year before I got pregnant, so it still doesn't button, but that's okay. Sometimes it looks good for blazers to be open so you can show off a beautiful statement necklace!

This is my first coat of the season even though it is a lovely 88 degrees outside, because I am ready for some cooler weather. Unfortunately, that means I am not actually wearing this today. Instead, I will just admire it and wear it inside with my air conditioner blasting and wait patiently for the day that I can use it! Anyone else ready for the weather to change?
