Five Things Friday #3- Halloween Edition

Happy Halloween!! (well... more like Happy Halloween's Eve) I have a Five Things Friday Halloween edition for you today. I hope you enjoy :)

1. This is my daughter's first Halloween! This is her costume she will be wearing; she is going as a lady bug. I can't wait to put it on her!!

2. Ever since I was a little girl, I have watched Hocus Pocus after trick or treating. I did this tradition with three girls who I call my "sisters". They are actually neighbors who I grew up with, but they are truly family. We would trade candy and watch this classic movie. I always feel nostalgic when it comes on!

3. I am just happy I made it through the day still alive. I teach 7th graders and it's the day before Halloween. To say that today was crazy is an understatement.

4. The one candy that I always raid my nieces bags for are the vanilla tootsie rolls. They are so good! Well, that and nerds. It's the only time of the year that I eat real candy and not just chocolate bars.

5. I have always loved Halloween! It is so fun to dress up. Here is one of my favorite dresses that I wore one year. Cody and I were people from the Wild West.

That's all for today! I hope you have a Happy Halloween!!

Orange and Black

I always get very nostalgic around Halloween. It holds some of my favorite memories of dressing up and spending time with my family including my "sisters", who are my neighbors that I grew up with. I am so excited that it's this week, and I get to take my daughter trick or treating for the first time! She is only 7 months and will most likely be sleeping, but it is still memories made and traditions started. I put together an outfit to honor the colors that represent this fun holiday.

Side note- It was raining all day Saturday and Sunday, so this is the best I could do. Sorry for the bad quality! You can see I didn't get in the rain at all.... I am not a witch, I just didn't want to have to redo my hair. I'm sure you understand.

New Orleans Day 2 & 3

Day two started off great in the courtyard with a complimentary breakfast. We had a Feis to attended, and I planned on wearing my palazzo pant outfit for that event. However, my football team was playing that day so I chose to wear my Aggie shirt instead. We sadly lost, but I will always support my Alma Mater no matter what. Here is the outfit I was going to wear.

We were at a Feis all day and there was an Irish festival going on beside it. I am sad to say that I didn't take any pictures. I sometimes get so involved in what is going on that I forget to document it. This was one of those times. Sorry!

After the Feis, it was time to eat dinner. We were celebrating my nieces 10th birthday, and she chose where we were to eat. The Irish House it was, and it was delicious! I would recommend ordering the Bangers & Mash. That is what I ordered, and I loved it.

That completed day 2 of the trip. The third day was spent eating breakfast at Cafe Du Monde and driving back home. I had no makeup on, leggings, a sweater, and my hair messy. Needless to say, there were no pictures of me taken that day.

That concludes my short trip to New Orleans. I am hoping that I will have some time to go again soon to enjoy it some more! We shall see :)

New Orleans Day 1

New Orleans is one of my favorite cities! As you walk around, you take a step back in time. It is so full of history, culture, and amazing food! I have been to New Orleans a million times, and I know some great little spots, but this post is not about the best places to go or what you should do. I'm just talking about my past weekend. I'll save that for another time. The reason we went was for a Feis (Irish dancing) that my nieces competed in, so we didn't get to venture around or play in the French Quarter, but we did have a great weekend with family.

Since this is a blog where I talk about my thrifts, I will start there. This is the first outfit I chose to take. New Orleans is full of color and shine, so I decided to contribute to that. I have already worn this shirt in a recent post (Here), and this cardigan as well (Here), but I'm a normal person and normal people re-wear clothes. Right?

We stayed at the Maison St. Charles. I have never stayed there before this trip; it had some charm and was a great location in the Garden District. The rooms were unique, and the lobby was BEAUTIFUL. It also has a nice courtyard where I did some reading and played with my sweet little girl. The only down fall was the bed. It was not the most comfortable, but after trotting across New Orleans, you are tired enough to sleep anywhere.

The first night we ate a snack at New Orleans Hamburger and Seafood Co. which has some amazing crawfish queso. My husband has an obsession with char broiled oysters, so we also ordered those. They were very garlicky, but yummy!

After much needed rest, we had dinner at Superior Seafood and Oyster Bar. It had a wonderful ambiance and we decided to take the tram, which was a fun experience. I did not eat that night though because I was still full from our snacking and my little girl fell asleep on my arm.

That pretty much did it for our first day! We settled in and rested.

Thrifted Thursday #4

We are leaving for New Orleans tomorrow! I am so excited because it is such a beautiful city with a rich history, and can we talk about the food?! I am expecting to gain 10 lbs. and I will do it happily! Next week I will show pictures of my trip. However, today is Thrifted Thursday. I have chosen some pieces that I have thrifted and are New Orleans inspired, or pieces I plan on wearing on my trip. I hope you enjoy!

1. J. Crew Paisley Top
I just love J. Crew's paisley numbers! They are always something that I gravitate to, and I jump for joy when I find them thrifting. This one is Mardi Gras colors, and I plan on wearing it come February.

2. AB Studio Palazzo Pants
While we are in New Orleans, we will be at a Feis, which is an Irish dancing competition. My nieces will be competing and it can be an all day affair. That is why I choose these palazzo pants to wear. They will be super comfortable.

3. Express Sequin Tank
While we are in New Orleans, we will also be celebrating some birthdays. This is the top that I have chosen to celebrate in. I have also used it in a previous post. You can check that out HERE. I just love it!

Repurposed Skinny Scarf

I have a love for vintage clothes, and I blame it on the history buff in me. I enjoy pieces that are truly from a distant time period. They give me a connection to the past; a tangible piece of history.

Unfortunately, I have some that I can no longer wear, but even though I have outgrown them, I can't part with them. I blame the hoarder in me for that one! A couple of weeks ago, I was cleaning out my closet and ran across a shirt that falls in this category. Thankfully, I did find a way to make it work! I took the skinny scarf that came with it and re-purposed it into this outfit.

One of the joys of thrifting is to take something old and make it new again. Keep your mind open when shopping, and you could be pleasantly surprised.

Passionate for Purple

Can we just talk about this purple dress for a minute. I mean the color is just gorgeous! I love a good, rich, deep purple. Eggplant and burgundy are some of my favorite colors to wear because they are so beautiful! Plus for a bonus, they make my green eyes pop. This is not quite burgundy, so it falls into the eggplant category. Either way, I was super excited about this dress because of the color.

I decided to go with a cropped jacket because it's sleeveless. Even though I could totally wear it here in good ole Houston without it, I want to try to wear fall clothes to inspire the weather to change. I will say I noticed the mornings are a bit brisker, so it may be working! I'm sure those of you enjoying your nice fall weather can't understand the struggle. I hope you enjoy sipping your spiced tea while you watch the leaves fall to the ground. I will be sitting down here dreaming of the fall in my shorts and air conditioner on full blast. It's okay though , come January when you are tired of shoveling snow, I will be full of energy in the cool weather. :)

Five Things Friday #2

I think it's time for another round of Five Things Friday! Keep reading if you want to know a few things that are going on in my little world! I apologize ahead of time for any randomness that may happen in this blog post. It would only scratch the surface of what goes on in my head. Scary, right?

Okay! Here it goes-

#1- I want to see The Martian movie that just came out!! It looks so good! Unfortunately, the book nerd in me won't go until I have read the book. I bought it over the weekend and can't wait to dive in!

#2- I love the Fall so very much! I love the football, reading by the fire, cooler weather, spending time with family, and of course pumpkin spiced coffee! Mmmmmm

#3. My daughter cut her first tooth! It has been hard on us both :(

#4. I have a confession- Sometimes when I'm thrift shopping, I sing the Macklemore song in my head and feel like I'm winning at life. I almost always accompany the song with a little dance only to find that the person next to me is looking at me strangely. I believe that if she could hear the song in my head that she would then understand and accept me.... But she can't.... So she isn't.

#5. On most Fridays we eat pizza or other take out for the sole reason that me getting through the day and home alive has exerted all of my energy. I have nothing left in me to do anything.

I hope you all have a great weekend!!

My New Scarf

Would you believe me if I told you I bought this scarf at Hobby Lobby? I hope so, because I did! Crazy, right? I went to hobby lobby looking to buy bow stuff for my daughter, and I came across the scarves. I was shocked at how cute they were! Who knew?! After much deliberation, I decided to settle on the flowers because I am just obsessed with them at the moment. Through this experience, I learned it's not just at thrift stores that I can be surprised to find some good deals. Hobby Lobby has some tricks up their sleeves too!

Sequins at Work

I am not sure it's appropriate to wear sequins at work, but in my dream world it would not only be okay, it would be recommended. I love things that sparkle! As a child, everything had glitter. As a teen, everything was rhinestoned. As an adult, I take what I can get!

When I am thrifting, I tend to see a good number of sparkly items. I do my best to try to pass them up only because I don't know where to wear them. Every now and then I come across something that I can't let go. This top was one. It was in good condition and a nice neutral grey. I tried pairing it up with a cardigan and pencil skirt to make it okay for work. I'm not ready yet, but one day I may be bold enough to wear it! Would you wear sequins to work?
